San Antonio Museum of Art

The San Antonio Museum of Art is a global cultural repository that spans 5,000 years and is located in the heart of San Antonio, TX, in the United States. On the Museum Reach of the San Antonio RiverWalk, the Museum is housed in the historic old Lone Star Brewery. It was made over for $7.2 million and reopened to the public in March 1981.

The Witte Memorial Museum began to amass famous pieces of art in the 1970s by artists such Frank Stella, Wayne Thiebaud, and Philip Guston. Jack McGregor, a former director of the San Antonio Museum Association, advised the board to buy the former Lone Star Brewery building and separate it from the Witte Memorial Museum due to the escalating pace of art acquisitions.

The museum's collection of more than 30,000 items spans 5,000 years of history and culture from every corner of the globe, and it includes significant pieces of Asian art, Latin American art, Contemporary art, Greek and Roman antiquities, and Egyptian, Greek, and Roman antiquities.

In a cluster of buildings that previously housed the Lone Star Brewery, the San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA) transports visitors around the globe and through five thousand years of art. The collection was interesting to see (I spent 1.5 hours here), although it is a bit pricey ($20 for an adult ticket). Know that there is free parking available in front of the museum if you are traveling by car.

Spanish colonial missions and the Hispanic culture of San Antonio are well known. The Alamo, SeaWorld, and the Riverwalk are further attractions. 1991. Open to the public, the 7,000 square foot Cowden Gallery will host exceptional exhibitions.
