Lake Houston

A reservoir called Lake Houston is located on the San Jacinto River 15 miles northeast of Houston, Texas's city center. The city of Houston's main source of municipal water is the reservoir. Located on the west bank, between the settlements of Kingwood, Atascocita, and Humble; to the south, Sheldon; and to the east, Crosby and Huffman. A section of the southern bank along Dwight D. Eisenhower Park is divided by an earthen dam. The dam was built in 1953 by the City of Houston to impound a reservoir in place of Sheldon Lake, the city's main water supply at the time. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department purchased Sheldon Lake from the city to be used as a public fishing area and a sanctuary for ducks. The lake is a popular destination for boating and fishing. At the lake's northernmost point, Lake Houston Wilderness Park offers cabin rentals, camping options, a kayak launch, and hiking and biking paths.

The San Jacinto River was dammed to create the lake, which is a great place for boating, skiing, fishing, and swimming.

The Lake Houston area, which stretches over several towns in North Houston, is gradually evolving into a popular destination for families of all sorts. The City of Humble, as well as the parts of northeast Harris County and Montgomery County that are bordered by Beltway 8 to the south, New Caney to the north, Huffman to the east, and Aldine-Westfield Road to the west, are included in the boundaries. But what precisely does it imply when someone claims to reside in the Lake Houston Area? Living in Lake Houston can mean many different things to its inhabitants. The Lake Houston area has everything, including gated golf course complexes, rural homes, and even premium apartments. A stunning, luxuriantly forested area of about 5,000 acres, Lake Houston Wilderness Park (LHWP), is situated off Highway 59 three miles east of New Caney (around 30 miles north of Houston). The only park in the division that permits overnight stays in cabins and campsites is Lake Houston Wilderness Park.

Over 20 miles of paths and a majority of the park are heavily forested, offering a tranquil getaway from the busy metropolis. The park offers a range of outdoor activities for individuals of all ages, including horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, camping, hiking, trail running, and birdwatching (visitors must bring their own bikes, fishing equipment, watercraft, and horses).

The Lake Houston reservoir was built in 1953 and is only 15 miles northeast of the city center. There are plenty of things to do in the area surrounding the lake, which is surrounded by residential communities like Kingwood, Humble, and Atascocita to the west, Sheldon to the south, and Crosby and Huffman to the east. It is a well-known recreational fishing and boating destination as well as a waterfowl sanctuary.
