Addicks, Houston

The original town site was situated just south of the intersection of Patterson Road and Highway 6. Many of the first German settlers are buried in the Addicks Bear Creek Cemetery. The 1900 hurricane completely devastated the town and the neighborhood, but it was rapidly restored. Since the original location was chosen as the location for the Addicks Reservoir, the village was compelled to relocate several miles south, close to the modern interchange of I-10 and Highway 6. This occurred by 1947.

Addicks neighborhood used to be a separate community. In 1884, Henry Addicks, the community's first postmaster, had a railroad stop in Bear Creek named after him. Just south of the intersection of Patterson Road and Highway 6, the initial town site was situated.
