West Lake Hills consistently appears on best-of lists for the Austin area, including those for best public schools, best suburb, best place to raise a family, best place to retire, and, of course, best place to live. This is likely due to its rural setting.

There were 1,143 households, of which 40.0% had residents under the age of 18, 69.0% were married couples, 5.2% had a female householder living alone without a husband, and 23.6% were not families. One person lived alone who was 65 years of age or older in 6.0% of all homes, which included 17.5% of all households. There were 2.71 people per household and 3.10 people per family on average.
