The Western North Carolina Annual Conference of the Methodist Church donated the 1774 Alexander Rock House and surrounding farm in 1943 for a planned retirement community known as the Methodist Home, now called Aldersgate. The Museum is home to the 1774 Alexander Rock House along with several outbuildings, which are located five minutes from the rear of the main building. Tours of the House's interior are offered every hour.The Rock House, the oldest structure in Mecklenburg County, was completed in 1774 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
