The American city of Smyrna is located in Cobb County, Georgia. It is situated in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area's inner ring, northwest of Atlanta. It is a part of the Atlanta-Athens-Clarke-Sandy Springs CSA, which is a part of the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Alpharetta MSA.

In 1832, settlers started moving into the area. Smyrna CampGround, a religious settlement, had gained notoriety and was well-known throughout Georgia by the late 1830s. It is a Greek name for the Biblical city of Smyrna, which is now the Turkish city of Izmir and was the residence of the martyred Christian Polycarp. The region started to expand once the Western and Atlantic Railroad was finished in 1842. Varner's Station, Ruff's Siding, Neal Dow, and Ruff's Station were some of the names it went by up until 1872. Smyrna is a terrific area to settle down and raise a family since it has excellent schools and communities brimming with facilities. Vinings to the east, Marietta to the north and west, and Mableton to the south and southwest are Smyrna's neighbors. Within 10 miles or so of Smyrna's center are the wealthy Atlanta communities of Paces and Buckhead as well as the city of Sandy Springs.

Vinings Estates, with its nearby swimming pool, tennis courts, and other social activities, is one of the best Smyrna neighborhoods. Village Green is a tiny neighborhood that houses the city hall, library, and community center.
