This cutting-edge retail concept, which spans six levels and 70,000 square feet of internal and external space, showcases RH Interiors, RH Modern, RH Baby & Child, RH TEEN, and RH Outdoor through artistic installations of home goods in a gallery environment. RH Atlanta also has estate gardens, a rooftop park, and a conservatory in addition to an interactive design workshop that provides expert design services in a studio setting.

Gilbane faced a difficult project due to the very constrained site circumstances and a tight timeframe that had to achieve the requisite grand opening date. The team used live meeting technology to work together because the project's strict timeline required that conflict resolution occur within a matter of hours or minutes, rather than over the course of days. Numerous utility conflicts, including those with storm and sanitary lines that ran underneath the site, resulted from the project's extensive alterations.

Gilbane spoke with the subcontractor, who hired a survey team, to find out whether there were any utility issues and to confirm them. Every time a task was finished, Gilbane, thedesign team, and the owner immediately convened online meetings or conference calls to decide how to proceed. For the store's products, an additional 20 RH visual artists and over 70 tradespeople were required. The staff put through round-the-clock shifts three weeks before Black Friday in order to make the deadline for the store's opening.

The approximately two-acre RH Atlanta building represents Friedman's ongoing partnership with design architect James Gillam of Backen, Gillam & Kroeger, a business included among Architectural Digest's Top 100 architectural and design firms worldwide.

Visitors are greeted by the Gallery's imposing exterior, which was designed as a modern interpretation of a Southern estate and features a wall of windows with more than 100 pairs of French doors, a 36-foot-tall Entry Oculus, and imposing 17-foot gates against a background of charcoal gray Venetian plaster.

With native large Hightower Willow Oaks framing the east façade, Alta Southern Magnolia trees growing out of a continuous boxwood hedge to the north and south, and Dwarf Yaupon Holly, the stunning grounds offer an expansive green composition all year long. A sequence of garden terraces with tracery metal trellises and climbing star jasmine may be seen from above, culminating in the Rooftop Park & Conservatory.
